This study explores the nature of the dependence of Christian ethics on religious faith from the perspective of Isaac Hecker. In Heckers writings there is a clear connection between personal and social ethics and the mission of the Church. Heckers insights shed further light on the contemporary question of the Churchs relationship to the reform of the individual and society. His works are studied within the narrative context of his life, and the study also includes the wider picture of Heckers place in the 19th century.
