Description
This study endeavors to resolve some of the ideological and literary contradictions in Barreto’s fictional world, and to shift critical focus away from the crusading content of his prose fiction and toward a reassessment of the way his thematic informs his novels and shorter fiction. It views him as an inheritor of European cultural baggage that was philosophical as well as literary.
