The purpose of this book is to provide a detailed examination of the social theory present within the ethics of C. L. Lewis. To date, no one has devoted sustained attention to Lewis’ conception of the good social order. This volume utilizes previously unpublished manuscript materials. It presents his ideas from within the framework of his pragmatic philosophy as a whole, growing out of its positions on knowledge and value. Lewis’ philosophy emerges from this study as a consistent and cohesive whole possessing a profoundly pragmatic core.
