The book focuses on the manufacture of arms by cottage industry gunsmiths who provided arms during the War for Independence; attempts to manufacture and repair arms during the Revolution in state-operated and private armories; attempts at the purchase of arms after the Revolution; private contract arms; and the operation of the state-owned Virginia Manufactory of Amrs.
