“The principal text for this book, Chapters 4-15, derives from the Trial of Professor John W. Webster, for the Murder of Doctor George Parkman, Reported Exclusively for the N.Y. Daily Globe (1850)that volume comprising seventy-six pages of the published version of the transcript of that trial. Please note, however, that I have attempted more than simply a copy of that transcript or an updated published version thereof. To have done only that would, simply, have repeated the problems presented or created by one or more reporters of the New York Daily Globe. I have not intended to degrade or to demean that effort. Instead, I have attempted to re-create a readable narrative of that trial.”
